Easter Money-Saving Tips For London Mums

Fill your own Easter baskets – Shop-bought is easier, but simply bulk buy some sweets and create your own Easter hampers as a cheaper option. Get the kids to decorate cheaply-bought paper bags and you’ve got excellent gifts for the family too.

Easter basket ideas – Get creative and you can fill your baskets with lower cost items that will be used all year round. Think of things like crayons, colouring books, snack-sized foods, a disposable camera and photo album, plant seeds or little outdoor toys like Frisbees and bouncy balls for families to share.

Plan days out now – Forget spontaneity, plan your half-term days out now and get cheaper train fares. Also go on the hunt for voucher codes or 2-for-1s to get even better rates.

Resist the Easter chicks – Don’t feel pressured to only buy ‘Easter-themed’ sweets or chocolates as gifts. Buy what you can in deals and then decorate with ribbon or a homemade Easter gift tag yourself.

Go homemade – Bulk make lovely Easter cookies or shortbread as an alternative to buying family members chocolates or cards and money. It’s thoughtful and will be well received!

Save, save, save – Make sure you save any ‘Easter grass’, baskets or decorations you buy or get given this year to re-use and re-gift next year. You’ll be glad of it.

Cheaper Days Out – Plan frugal outdoor activities for the long weekend that don’t require shelling out lots of money for tickets. For example:

- An Easter Sport’s Day (gather friends, family and head to a park!)

- Your Own Easter Egg Hunt (buy cheap sweets and hide around the garden)

- Easter Egg Rolling (just paint and decorate stones and find a big hill!).
