Family Day Out Around Regent's Park, London

Morning: ZSL London Zoo

Begin your day with a trip to one of London's most popular attractions – ZSL London Zoo. Located in the heart of The Regent's Park, the zoo has more than 16,000 animals to discover. Come face-to-face with all kinds of animals - from the magnificent gorillas of Gorilla Kingdom to the playful penguins in their Penguin Beach home. There's also a petting zoo, where kids can stroke and feed sheep, donkeys and llamas.

Arrive at ZSL London Zoo in style with the London Waterbus Company's canal boat service along Regent's Canal from either Camden Lock or Little Venice. You'll even miss the queues as you enter through a special canal gate!

After meeting the animals, spend the rest of the morning exploring The Regent's Park. There are four children's playgrounds within the park, plus boating on the main lake. During the summer, the park buzzes with activity, with music in the bandstands, puppet shows by the lake and fabulous performances in the Open Air Theatre (from May to September).

Lunch: The Regent's Park

You don't have to go far for a tasty lunch; Regent's Park has a number of restaurants and snack bars in its grounds. The Honest Sausage serves free-range sausages and bacon with organic bread, cakes and biscuits, and has both indoor and outdoor seating.

Enjoy old-fashioned milkshakes, sandwiches and other savoury snacks at the Cow and Coffee Bean, topped off with a delicious ice cream sundae. Alternatively, head to the family-friendly Boathouse Café for views over the lake from the large terrace seating area.

Of course you can always pack a picnic or grab a takeaway. With more than 410 acres (166 hectares) of The Regent's Park to explore, you're sure to find a lovely spot for lunch!

Afternoon: Madame Tussauds & Sherlock Holmes Museum

Exit Regent's Park via the York Gate and walk along Marylebone Road to a star-studded adventure in Madame Tussauds, one of London's most famous attractions.

Mingle with your favourite celebrities from the worlds of film, music, sports and more. Enjoy an exciting interactive adventure in the Marvel Superheroes 4D Experience or strike a pose with Kate Winslet and Robert Pattinson in the A-List Party area. You can even take a penalty under the watchful eye of David Beckham or strut your stuff with Rihanna and Lady Gaga in the Madame Tussaud's Music Zone.

Next it's time to use your detective skills to find London's most famous address! The fictional hero of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's celebrated novels was said to live at 221b Baker Street; the site now houses the Sherlock Holmes Museum. The first museum in the world dedicated to a fictional character, it features several life-size wax figures from Holmes' adventures and a re-creation of his famous study.

Evening: Family Dinner in Marylebone

There are many family-friendly restaurants where you can enjoy dinner in Marylebone. The Real Greek serves up delicious Mediterranean food that both adults and children will love. The kids' menu features tasty skewers of meat, burgers or a meze selection.

Giraffe also has a restaurant in the area, and it's a great place to go with kids. The menu has mini mains including burgers, salmon fingers and pasta, and young diners are given crayons and puzzles to keep them amused.

The Regent's Park is easily accessible by Tube or bus. Regent's Park is the nearest Tube station and buses 2, 13, 18, 27, 30, 74, 82, 113, 139, 189, 274, 453 and C2 all stop nearby.
